Penny Turvey - Director

My passion for the industry started when I was a student. I had a great lecturer who enthused me throughout my training and that is something I try to do with all my students. Before teaching I was a beauty therapist and had my own salon. After selling my salon I went on to teach full time at 2 of the largest colleges of further education in the country.

Following on from teaching I took the role of Chief National Verifier for a major awarding body. I was also elected Chairman of one of the major beauty association of the time. This involved a lot of international travel and gave me the opportunity to see how beauty therapists are trained in such far flung places as Malaysia / Hong Kong India / Malta/ Canada etc etc.

Following my 2 years as Chairman I decided to take a directional change and joined the supply side of the industry. I rose to become M.D. of a multi million pound company specialising in the formulation, manufacture and distribution of professional skin care and hair care products. Again this gave me some fantastic work opportunities both here and overseas, as I never thought that my training as a therapist would lead to business negotiations in Moscow, Turkey, China and Poland to name a few. I am a press contributor, national speaker and judge for industry awards.

I am the immediate past chairman of Habia - the Hairdressing and Beauty Industry Authority and the first beauty therapist to hold this coveted position. My passion for this industry has lead me to tread the education road again, that and a burning desire to deliver training that quite simply is right, right for our students and right for their future employers.
